UnLingo ("we", "us", "our") is operated by a sole trader registered in Ireland. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal data when you use our mobile application and website at unlingo.app.
By using UnLingo you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service:
- Account data: Your name, email address and profile picture — provided when you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Learning data: Your selected language, CEFR level, lesson progress, completed exercises, vocabulary scores, streaks and XP points.
- Usage data: App activity timestamps (used for streak calculation). We do not collect your location or browsing history.
- Device data: If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can deliver reminders. We also collect basic diagnostic data (such as crash reports and error logs) to keep the app stable.
- Payment data: Subscription purchases are processed exclusively through Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Provide and personalise the UnLingo learning experience.
- Save your progress, vocabulary and achievements across sessions.
- Calculate your daily streak and award XP.
- Send optional service-related notifications (with your permission).
- Improve the app based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.
3. Third-Party Services
UnLingo uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Google Sign-In — authentication. Google Privacy Policy

- Artificial intelligence service (Google Gemini) — used to generate adaptive exercises and to power the Speaking Club. For exercises, only vocabulary words and lesson context are sent. In the Speaking Club, the messages you choose to type are sent to generate replies and corrections; please do not include sensitive personal information in those messages. Google AI Terms

- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — used to deliver push notifications. Stores a device push token. Firebase Privacy

4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers hosted in the European Union. We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission. Database access is restricted to authorised personnel only.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Learning progress data is retained to provide continuity of service.
5. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure: Request deletion of your account and all associated data. You can do this directly in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account) or by emailing us.
- Portability: Request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Restriction: Ask us to restrict processing of your data.
- Object: Object to certain types of processing.

6. Data Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:
Upon deletion, all your personal data, learning progress, vocabulary and achievements are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
UnLingo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@unlingo.app and we will delete it promptly.
8. Cookies
The UnLingo mobile app does not use cookies. Our website (unlingo.app) uses only essential localStorage to remember your language preference. No tracking or advertising cookies are used.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Continued use of UnLingo after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
